City Font

For this assignment we were told to create a typeable font. For this assignment I wanted to visualize the NATA and LAPD alphabet in a different way, so I decided I wanted to use Flickr to visualize these. In example for the letter C there would be photo’s of Cairo, Cardiff, Chicago, Canberra and Compton capturing different aspects of these cities. Combining these by hand, structures emerged much like sky scrappers.

Font Tool:
In the application that I build using Processing you’re able to view and control a single glyph by modifying various parameters. In addition there is a map where you can view the different cities that are being used to build the glyphs, clicking on a city will give you the pictures taken on that location. The glyphs and the source photographs can be exported to a PDF file.
